ONE WORLD FASHION
NICE N NATURAL
The fabrics of the ‘One World’ theme are, as you would
expect, mostly natural with real (or faked!) hand-made’ looks
as key features. Ethnic crafts such as batik, dip-dying, tie-dying
and block-printing are used on entire fabrics while embroidery
and fringing are used as decorative touches on garment borders
and accessories.
TOUCH OF LUXURY
While natural cottons, linens and denims dominate, more luxurious
fabrics such as silks and satins are also popular and help to add
a touch more glamour to an otherwise casual theme. These luxurious
fabrics also lend themselves well to animal-print designs which
always integrate effortlessly with ethnic-inspired fashion. Soft
leathers and suedes are the final fabrics to complete the One World’ picture
- used mostly for jackets and waistcoats but with occasional use
for skirts and even trousers.
EARTH AND SKY
The palette for this theme is mostly the rich, earthy shades of
brown, olive, rust and gold mixed with all shades of blue - from
the darker denims, through the palest sky tones to the brightest
hues of cobalt and turquoise. Prints, such as checks and paisleys,
often combine many of these colours to great effect and can themselves
be combined together for a 70’s ‘dippy-hippy’,
summer look.
